Two FGCU baseball players named All-Americans

Florida Gulf Coast University senior third baseman Jason Louwsma and freshman pitcher Casey Coleman have been named to the second squad of the 2006 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-South Region team by coaches in the region.

Louwsma's .361 batting average and 10 home runs were second-best on FGCU's 41-17 team that went 2-2 in the South Regional at the University of Tampa earlier this month. His 86 hits, 28 doubles and 74 RBIs led the Eagles. In two years at FGCU, Louwsma, a Sanford native, holds the school records for most home runs (23) and doubles (47). He played in every game of both seasons.

Louwsma also was named to the College Baseball Writers' first All-America team, tying Benedict College third baseman DeShaun Brooks.

Coleman, of Cape Coral, made 13 pitching appearances, starting seven games and compiling a 3-1 record and 2.56 ERA. Mostly a closer, Coleman led FGCU with six saves.

Also the starting second baseman, Coleman hit .346 with a home run and 32 RBIs.
