The Driftwood Room restaurant in Old Marco Village was purchased by O'Shea's Goodland Marina Restaurant.

Tom Shea, purchaser, said it would be renamed O'Shea's Fishermen's Wharf and would be family operated. Shea said the restaurant would specialize in freshly caught seafood. It also would be one of the few restaurants on the island with a liquor license.

Aubrey Rogers announced he would run for Collier County Sheriff in November. He had been sheriff since he was appointed in the fall of 1975 by Gov. Reubin Askew after E.A. Doug Hendry resigned in the wake of an indictment in the shooting of his son.

Local poet Catherine Hanford released her 12-page booklet called The Story of the Black Squirrel on Marco Island, an elusive native species that she personified in the book for her grandchildren.
