Bonita wound center gets new oxygen chambers

With the arrival of two new oxygen chambers this morning, the Bonita Springs Community Health Center will soon begin new wound treatments.

This morning the center received two hyberbaric chambers for its soon-to-open Wound Healing Center on Healthcare Boulevard. The one-ton, $100,000 chambers will allow for advanced healing of wounds, related to soft tissue infections and diabetic foot ulcers, among other ailments, said Michelle Zech, program director for Naples' Community Hospital's wound healing center.

The NCH wound center will be the only such center in south Lee County, allowing patients to get wound treatment closer to home, Zech said. Patients previously had travel to NCH's location in Collier County, Zech said. Patients outside of the NCH system had to go into Fort Myers.

The Wound Healing Center is set to open June 26. Use of the new chambers will begin in July.

The addition of a wound center is great for the health center because it will allow them to offer additional outpatient services, said Mike Riley, CEO of the Bonita Community Health Center.
