Fort Myers man charged with drug trafficking

A Fort Myers Beach man was arrested Monday at the intersection of U.S. 41 East and Bayshore Drive on drug trafficking charges and could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

In May the Sheriff’s Office received information that Kevin Kosik, 31, of 150 Lenell Road, Fort Myers Beach, was involved in the sale of controlled substances, a Sheriff’s Office report said. Three times in May undercover officers met with Kosik and purchased oxycodone tablets using money from the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Funds.

On one occasion Kosik also wrote a prescription for 30 Vicodin tablets for an undercover officer and signed the prescription with the name of a Fort Myers doctor, the report said.

On Monday an undercover officer once again arranged to purchase oxycodone from Kosik. After completing the transaction Kosik was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, authorities seized 86.5 grams of hydrocodone with an estimated street value of $330, 16.5 grams of oxycodone valued at $1,040, 7.5 grams of alprazolam worth $60 and 1.5 grams of methylphenidate worth $80, authorities said.

Kosik was charged with two counts of trafficking in oxycodone, trafficking in hydrocodone, sale of a controlled substance, possession of methylphenidate, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell (methylphenidate), and possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam).

He is also charged with criminal use of personal identification information and forgery, authorities said.

In 2003 deputies arrested Kosik and charged him with trafficking of opium or a derivative, possession of cocaine and fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was also charged with fraud related to that incident for possessing a blank prescription form, authorities said.

Kosik’s trial for the 2003 charges is scheduled for later this month, authorities said.

If convicted on the new charges, Kosik faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison.
