Slight rain chance, heat in today’s forecast

There’s only a slight chance of rain today in Southwest Florida, but the forecast calls for a 100 percent chance of sweltering heat.

Despite showers that lingered well off the Collier County coast this morning, most of the area will stay dry today. The National Weather Service said a 20 percent chance of rain is in the forecast.

Interior and eastern portions of South Florida have the best shot at rain today.

The high temperature is expected to reach 91 today in Naples and south Lee County, with highs reaching about 93 degrees in inland areas.

The high is expected to climb to about 90 each day through the middle of next week, the weather service said.

The average high temperature on today’s date at Naples Municipal Airport is 89 degrees, according to weather service records.

The average June brings 8.18 inches of rain to the city, but much like the rest of the year, Naples has been drier than normal this month. The city has picked up 0.22 inches of rain in June, all of which fell on June 1.

A slight rain chance is in the forecast each day through the middle of next week.
