Letter: Step up, the city area deserves better

Dear Editor:

Being a owner of a rental duplex in Golden Gate City I am constantly at the property doing repairs or mowing the grass to keep the county code folks off my back.

I have noticed what I will call a gray area that exists in our community. It's the area between the property line and the edge of the road. No one seems to want to establish responsibility for maintaining it or keeping it clean. Some property owners keep it neat and mowed and other don't.

We have the garbage folks picking up what they want, when they want and dumping some in, over or under the trucks in most cases. There are TVs, furniture, shopping carts, bottles and cans all up and down the street all the time and all because no one takes responsibility for the gray area.

The county, owners, rental operators and landlords are the only ones that can cure this mess.

The county needs to make sure all its right-of-ways are cut and kept clean and that the some kind of orderly system can be use to keep furniture and old appliances picked up and are not out for weeks.

Owners, renters, county, landlords all need to come up with who is responsible for keeping the gray area cleaned up.

Come on folks, this is not what we want our neighborhood to look like here in Naples. Let's get off our butts and come up come up with some useful ideas for Golden Gate City and the Estates.

I am currently planning on installing a garbage can blind so the cans can't be seen from road when not out for pickup and maybe something for mail boxes in front.

I don't live in Golden Gate City but the Golden Gate City folks deserve a better looking place and its not expensive just takes a little elbow grease and time.

Was that 2 or 3 cents worth?
