It's time once again to clean out the coolers, shake the sand out of the folding chair and grab the clay stained tennis shoes. Little League All-Stars are just around the bend.
Official try-outs for District 18 are open to everyone in the league and begin June 15. Organizers expect a turnout of 20-30 players for each age division. Daily clinics covering the basics of fielding, hitting and base running are currently being held at the Golden Gate Community Park from 6-9 p.m..
Last year was a strong one for Golden Gate National and the hopes are that this year will result in the same, if not better. The All-Star team for nine and ten year-olds, coached by Dave Bullock, will begin play on June 23 at Golden Gate Community Park.
The 12-year-old All-Star team will be coached by Mike Walker and George Tracy and will begin play June 29th in San Carlos. Coach Tony Scott will head up the 11-year-olds, beginning play on the 23rd in North Naples. All tournaments last approximately two weeks.
Last year both the 11-year-olds and juniors (13-14's) of Golden Gate National took first in districts and second in sectionals at Braden River. The 11-year-olds lost to S. Ft. Myers of District 9 and the juniors fell to Venice, the site of this years sectionals.
