A belt buckle in a precious metal is a gift that can be worn for years. Did you know that a man’s belt buckle should match his watch?

Tiffany & Co. has a coin-edge sterling buckle ($165) that can be engraved by hand or machine. Machine engraving is done in the store at a cost of $8 for the first three characters; hand engraving is $25 to $55 for the first three characters. Hand engraving is sent to New York and takes three to four weeks. There are also a few buckles available in gold.

Saks Fifth Avenue has a variety of Cartier buckles (with belts attached). I like the interlocking Cartier Cs with a belt that reverses from black to brown leather ($330). Also available at Saks is a sterling buckle in a plaid design with room for three engraved initials in the center ($125).

Bigham Jewelers has a David Yurman sterling buckle with a satin finish and a small cable design in the center ($265). They also have a custom monogrammed buckle in 18-karat pink, white and yellow gold ($9,000) from the Kathy Bigham Signature Collection. This is a one-of-a kind item that could be used by either men or women.
