Collier County sheriff's deputies have arrested a 29-year-old Golden Gate woman on charges of engaging in sexual activity with a 5-year-old boy.
On June 11, 2005, the Sheriff's Office received a report from Diane Simmons that her daughter, Genny Lynne Simmons, and an unnamed man, had been touching the 5-year-old in a sexual manner.
The Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation and determined that Simmons had been sexually active with the boy on several occasions. The activity occurred in Collier County and in Pinellas County, the Sheriff's Office reported.
The name of the boy isn't being released because of the nature of the charges.
The Sheriff's Office reported it has videotapes of the activity.
A warrant was issued for Simmons' arrest in October, sheriff's spokeswoman Kristin Adams said. A warrant for the unnamed man has been executed as well, but he hasn't been arrested, she said.
Simmons, whose address was not listed on arrest reports, was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. She was charged with six counts of capital sexual battery on a child younger than 12 and one count of promoting the sexual performance of a child.
Adams said she could not say why it took eight months to arrest Simmons.
"Sometimes people are arrested the next day, sometimes it takes some time," Adams said. "If we have someone out there who's doing this to children, it's definitely a priority for us. We had knowledge of where she was at the time and we had knowledge that the child was not in danger any longer."
Simmons is not listed in the state of Florida's online sexual offender database.
This is the second straight day the Sheriff's Office has arrested an adult living in Golden Gate on charges of engaging in sexual activity with a young child.
Steve Moore, 50, was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with exposing a 2-year-old girl to pornographic movies and having her perform a sex act on him, authorities said.
Adams said that in both cases the adults involved were familiar to their victims.
"It's always something to be concerned about," Adams said. "Parents should always be careful and wary and keep open lines of communication with their children."
