Dredging up the past

Dredge and fill.

That was the name of the development game in the 1950s and 1960s as Collier and other Florida counties built land where none existed at water's edge.

The practice was brought to a near halt on Marco Island and elsewhere as an environmental nightmare in the early 1980s.
