Alberto’s influence continues; clouds, breeze expected

Although Tropical Storm Alberto will stay well north, the season’s first named storm will continue to affect Southwest Florida’s weather today.

Scattered storms are expected this afternoon and evening with winds in excess of 15 mph. Skies will stay mostly cloudy with a 60 percent chance of rain and a high temperature of 87 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

Naples Municipal Airport has recorded 1.15 inches of rain since Sunday.

A slight chance of rip currents exists along Gulf beaches today with wave heights of six to eight feet, forecasters said.

In Lee County, a flood watch and high surf advisory were posted until this afternoon. A tornado watch expired at 8 a.m. No warnings, watches or advisories were posted for Collier County.

A chance of rain is in the forecast tonight with a low of 75 degrees. Storms will be likely again Wednesday with the mercury reaching about 89, the weather service said.

With Alberto long gone, chances of rain will stay in the forecast later this week with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 90s.

The average high temperature on today’s date in Naples is 90 degrees, according to weather service records.
