It is not a frill. It is iron — and cardiovascular exercise equipment.
The city of Bonita Springs is upgrading its recreation center exercise facility by adding 2,400 square feet of space and new weight and cardio machines at a total cost of $319,500.
It is taxpayers' dollars well spent. The council last week voted 5-2 for the expansion, with members John Joyce and Pat McCourt dissenting.
With the rec center the biggest exercise bargain in the region (even non-Bonita residents pay only $60 annually where they can easily spend 10 times as much at other facilities; Bonita residents are charged approximately $40), it is an expenditure on a healthy tomorrow for many.
With a lot of talk about tight-fisted spending policies to come from City Hall, it is good to see such an expense carry the day as a public service.
