Are you a budding artist who's ready to exhibit your work? Are you a life-long painter or potter who enjoys entering local competitions? "Regional Artists I" is a juried show open to all area artists in all mediums.
A prospectus can be picked up at the Center for the Arts, or call 495-8989 and one will be sent to you. Drop-off for the exhibition is Friday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. An awards reception for this exhibit will be held Friday, July 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The exhibit will coincide with an architectural display titled "Imaginary Spaces and Places: The Magic of Architecture" and our birdhouse competition. Regional Artists I will be on display through July 27.
The drop-off day for our "We're Going to the Birds..." birdhouse competition is fast approaching. If you wish to be part of the fun, stop by the Center for the Arts and pick up an application. Nearly $1,000 in prize money is up for grabs.
Birdhouses can be entered in two categories – functional or visual/artistic. Drop-off is Friday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Center for the Arts. The birdhouses will be judged and awards will be announced at a reception held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 7.
The birdhouses will be auctioned at the reception and proceeds will benefit Art League programming. AIA Florida Southwest is co-sponsoring this competition.
It's definitely summer – the heat, the humidity, the kids at home. If you are looking for summertime fun for the children in your life, look into Summer Art Camps at the Center for the Arts. "Me! Me!! Me!!!," "Young at Art," "Cartoon Formations," and "So You Want to be in Pictures?" are just a few of the camps running during the week of June 19-23.
Camp offers your child a chance to be creative and meet new friends. Each day is a new adventure working in variety of artistic mediums. Camps are divided by age and either morning (9 a.m. to noon) or afternoon (1 to 4 p.m.) sessions.
A supervised lunch is available for children staying the entire day. Scholarship application forms are available by calling the Art League at 495-8989.
July 4 falls on a Tuesday this year, so Summer Art Camps for that week will only be two days long. Youngster, ages 4 to 5 can enjoy Young at Art, Level 1 (K to 2nd grade) and Level 2 ( 3rd through 6th grade) can participate in "Mo Art," and 12-15+ years have a chance to make jewelry in "Bumpy Beady Bracelets," or try their hand at "Chinese Brush Painting." Sign up now for these exciting two-day camps. Openings are limited.
