Bonita Springs Woman's Club: Summer slowdown a time for new activities

Bonita Springs Woman's Club met on Tuesday, June 6, at the clubhouse on Childers Street. You can tell it's summer, as the attendance is getting down to a select few. The meetings are much shorter, but we all prefer to continue with them because it's a nice way to keep in touch over the next few months.

Our one real delight was to welcome long time member Jean McKnight back for the first time in a long time due to illness. Jean, it was so very good to finally see you again, and I must say you really look great!!

As usual, the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord's Prayer were followed by the treasurer's and the secretary's reports, which were read and approved.

President Malloch informed us that she and Blanche Mazzucco were honored to attend the awards presentation at Estero High School, where scholarships were presented to our two graduating students. She also reminded us there will be no more regular or nickel bingo until September, much to the dismay of all our faithful attendees every Wednesday. It got to be a well-attended and fun occasion for everyone, and we all miss it.

The box of items we've collected for Our Mother's Home will be delivered next Tuesday, and anyone wishing to tag along and take a tour of the facility is more than welcome.

Thinking of ways to add some excitement during this quiet season, we have decided to try "Dessert and a Matinee" on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The location for the dessert is not decided yet, and the movie will be up to the individual taste. Good way to do it since you'll never please everybody.

Our regular luncheon this month will be on June 20 at the British Pub, Burnadean Humphrey informed us. Time, as usual, is 1 p.m. Please call Barbara if you need a ride from the clubhouse. Since there will be no meeting in July because the first Tuesday is on July 4, the luncheon for that month will be at First Watch on July 18.

We sang happy birthday to Noreen Johnson, Dot O'Brian and Nina Poland. Our hostesses for June were Blanche Mazzucco and Betty VerWey, who did their usual outstanding job with the cakes. Next month it will be Ann Myers and Doris Bowyer providing the refreshments. 50/50 was won by Barbara Malloch, and the meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m. with our Circle of Friendship.

The next meeting will not be until Aug. 1. Everyone stay healthy and happy until then. For any questions about the Club, please call Barbara at 992-8887.
