Anglers are invited to join local fishing expert and guide Capt. Craig Goode for a two- part program entitled "Bay and Gulf Fishing In & Around Naples." Session 1 looks at the science of fishing, equipment necessary to be successful, proper rigging, and the importance of selecting the right bait. Session 2 will cover different species of fish, their habits and habitats.
The two-part series is being offered at the Naples Regional Library, 650 Central Ave., Naples at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, July 12 and 19. Registration is required for this program. Participants may register in person at the library or by calling 263-7768.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Collier County, Inc.
The first week of June proved to be good fishing days in the area.
• Kowalyk's Captain's Corner: Generally good bite with special attention to the wayback areas of Estero Bay.
Reds, snook, baby tarpon and trout were all on a chew with plenty of easy to get mixed whitebaits. Fly guys scored as did plug fisherman. Off the beach there were plenty of Spanish and blues to keep light tackle and flu anglers busy. The tarpon bite has slowed a bit with some fish still hanging around Knapps Point up to Redfish and Captiva passes. There's a good number of big snook in the Caloosahatchee and in the feeder creeks on the west shore of Pine Island Sound. The Caloosa Catch and Release Tournament was a big success as usual with lots of anglers and plenty of big fish caught.
Submissions to Fish Tales should be made by noon each Monday. Contact Cathy Cottrill at 213-6031 or by e-mail at cccottrill@bonitanews.com. Her fax number is 213-6099.
