Editor, The Banner:
Are you fed up with insurance cancellations? Can't obtain coverage? OK, send an e-mail to Gov. Jeb Bush and the state attorney general demanding an investigation on this mess. You'll get a quick response thanking you for your concern, however, please send your complaints to the Department of Financial Affairs. In other words, "punch yourself in the mouth." You see, this department is what caused this mess in the first place.
State Sen. J.D. Alexander said, "I think it's a crisis."
Tom Gallagher, the chief financial officer appointed these regulators. Mr. Gallagher ought to be indicted. This honorable man is running for governor. Three cheers for Tom!
Twenty-seven insurance companies left the state. How many of these 27 write other lines, for example, auto, life, etc.? They should be notified that all other lines will be terminated unless they come back and write property coverage. How many companies applied to come into the state?
You notify the mother of the cabal, State Farm, that the automatic 10 percent rate increase every year is rescinded. Red lining is against the law and heavy fines will be imposed if we catch you. You come to the trough for a rate increase. Then your books are examined to see if it's warranted, if you refuse then no rate increase is granted. You will not use Citizens Insurance as your dumping ground. You will write mobile homes provided they comply with state and or city upgrades, example no unit over 10 years of age. You will write coverage on property one or two miles from the Atlantic and the Gulf. Not from "water" as presently stated.
Those companies that did not leave but just closed the door on writing property coverage and continue to write other lines will write property coverage. Those companies that have a small amount of property risks will be given a block of insureds from Citizens Insurance. Any insured with no losses for two years shall receive a 5 or 10 percent reduction in their premiums. This should continue until there is a 50 percent reduction in their premium. They will lose half of reduction if a claim is over a certain amount.
We must stop using Citizens Insurance as a dumping ground for these hogs at the trough who have a stranglehold on these regulators, these honorable men. "What's that, you say?" "These are draconian measures you're recommending." Yes they are and must be done now! What's that, you say? "State Farm and Allstate will pull out if these conditions are enacted." No they won't and if they say they are going to, it's only a threat, because they must take everything out of the state: life, auto, annuities etc. The first quarter of this year Allstate posted 26 percent earnings profit. Reason: quiet claim activity. The mother of the cabal, State Farm, has not posted its profits. These state regulators, along with Tom Gallagher, should be indicted and fired. An appointment of an insurance czar should take should take their place with strong powers to bring these carriers under control.
These hogs are now using the legislation to seek higher rates, fewer regulations and higher profits. It's a feeding frenzy. They raped the state regulators and now it's the legislator. Rep. Randy Johnson said, "It's a sweetheart deal for the insurance industry." He was immediately put in place by the house speaker, Allan Bense, who said "you can't cross the line." Both chambers agree to use a portion of the sales tax to pay the deficit of Citizens Insurance Company. I thought the sales tax was used to fund other projects in the state.
My last question: What do these hogs give back during the good years? As usual, the public takes the hit.
