The Pro Bull Riders association pulled in a full house at Germain Arena Friday. Parking lots were full, with overflow parking lining the driveway off Ben Hill Griffin Parkway.
Top contenders of the PBR tour competed in stifling heat to an enthusiastic crowd ranging from toddlers to 98 year old Bill Granger of Fort Myers.
Karina Griffin, 6 and her sister Chelsey, 4, joined the family on their yearly visit to the event, while the event was many other resident's first rodeo.
Wild rides and wilder spills, all in search of the elusive 8-second mark, kept audiences on their feet, and often the end of the ride was not the end of the excitement.
With amazing sure-footedness for a 2,000 pound beast, many of the bulls turned on their dislodged riders, prompting a quick-footed sprint to the nearest fence while rodeo clowns and wranglers did their job.
With a score of just over 84 needed to advance, ten cowboys battled it out in the final round with only one rider managing to ride out the stopwatch and leaving 19-year-old Austin Meier at the top of the U.S. Smokeless Challenger Tour Standings.
