Spring Creek Village: Vigilance needed in park

The "flowerpot" is gone!

For a couple of years I decorated my green golf cart with flowers of the season.

When I would show up at Bonnie Gunsallus' house, Paul would call to Bonnie that the "flowerpot" was there.

I didn't put flowers on after the holidays this year and now I'm sorry. If I had I'm sure that the thief or thieves would have passed it by Tuesday afternoon.

The Lee County Deputy Sheriff, Cpl. Sheffield, was sympathetic and said nine out of 10 stolen golf carts turn up. He said that several stolen bikes had turned up in Pelican Landing so we checked out the neighborhood. They aren't allowed to have personal golf carts but we looked anyway.

Thursday night, Don Owsley parked his golf cart in his carport on returning from bridge. Friday morning it was gone. Don and Carolyn and my husband, Sonny, are from Kentucky. Maybe someone doesn't like the Wildcats.

If you left a golf cart parked under your carport, maybe you'd better check with someone here to make sure it is still there.

• There will be a meeting on June 22 for those in the park.

Please plan on attending. It is my understanding that there will be information regarding use of the clubhouse during hurricanes. Marilyn Roberts has been doing some great work in getting the information together and it will be worth your while. Don't depend on someone else to bring the information to you because it is in your best interest to be there in person.

• I received an e-mail with the news that Bob Erstadt took a fall last week and broke his hip. He had surgery and received a partial hip replacement. He is now able to sit up and walk with a walker. He will need rehab at a local facility very close to his home and his daughter's home. Cards can be sent to 120 Clifton St., Evansville, WI 53536. For their phone number, contact me.

• This week we said goodbye to Sarah and Frank Dwyer.

After spending many years with us in SCV they have been invited to join their family in West Chester, Pa. A special apartment has been added to their son's house to accommodate Sarah and Frank as they become reacquainted with their grandchildren. They will be missed by us but loved by their family.

• Mary Lou McCoppin returned to Ohio after her husband, Jim, passed away last year. Mary Lou joined Jim on June 5. She and Jim were residents for over 20 years. She is the sister-in-law of George and Mabel McCoppin. She was living with her daughter, Shirley Collier. Cards can be sent to her at 7600 Pea Ridge Road, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.

• Bingo had some new specials last week. Jerry Wobrach, continuing his winning streak, and Evelyn Wright, back from her trip to Indianapolis, won the Steps game.

Rose Higgins won both the Nine in the Corner and the Big Basket. Nick Pappas, who was taking a week off from calling the numbers, took the Coverall.

Wednesday afternoon there is still Canasta for those who are interested.

In pinochle Wednesday evening, Jane Griffiths and Evelyn Wright won the top prizes and Joe Bohrer took both the Door Prize and Booby Prize. Thursday the Bridge players met and I apologize because I lost their winners list. Friday, Jane Griffiths, Joe Bohrer and Kay Haddam took the Pinochle honors and Ron Hatch won the Door Prize.

• Saturday morning, Herb and Rose Higgins put the coffee pots on and journeyed to Publix to get us some fresh donut holes to go along with the early morning conversation. We found out that stolen golf carts were not the end of vandalism in the park. Someone had taken it on themselves to turn the water pressure down on our new water hook up. Dennis was contacted and he called Bonita Springs Utilities. They determined what the problem was and corrected it. Obviously we are to be the target of people with nothing better to do than harass our community. I hope the sheriff's department is ready to hear from us on a regular basis.

• The fun still goes on at SCV and Vera Stivers has put up a sign-up sheet for the Fourth of July party. It will be a great time I'm sure.

We still have room for you if you are interested in seeing the "Lion King" on Feb. 21, 2007 with a group from SCV. We have several people who are coming without their spouse, so feel free to join us even if you are alone. Contact Bonnie Gunsallus or me for more information.

• Sonny and I have started to get the RV ready for our annual trip north. We should be on the road when next week's column comes out. Hopefully, the rain will be behind us and the sunny, blue skies of Ohio will greet us. Have a good week and take care.
