Barbecue

The Kiwanis Club of Naples on the Gulf is sponsoring a chicken barbecue from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5800 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples. Proceeds benefit the Boy Scouts of America, Ronald McDonald’s Care Mobile and Step By Step. $10 (adults), $6 (children). Information: 253-2779

Golf tournament

The American Red Cross will sponsor a tournament on June 23 at the Club at TwinEagles, Naples. A continental breakfast will be served with an awards lunch following the tournament. $1,250 (foursome). Information: 596-6868, ext. 12.

Sports auction

Bid on a Gene Sarazen autographed golf bag, a Shaquille O’Neal autographed basketball, Yogi Berra autographed baseball, Jason Varitek Boston Red Sox photograph and many other pieces of sports memorabilia from 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 24 at the Radisson Beach Suite Resort, 2045 Rookery Bay Drive, Naples. Proceeds benefit the Marco Island YMCA. Free admission. Information: 250-2175

Cat litter needed

The Humane Society of Lee County needs cat litter donations. Regular litter is needed, not the scoopable type; bags may be dropped off at 2010 Arcadia St., Fort Myers, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and from noon-4 p.m. on Sundays. Information: (239) 332-0364

Agencies join United Way

Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida and Youth Haven have joined United Way Collier County. Both agencies will receive funds in 2007. Voices for Kids is involved in the Guardian Ad Litem Program; Youth Haven provides family support, helping divert children from the foster care system.

Personally speaking

-- Shelly Church, a volunteer for the Collier County division of the American Heart Association, received the group’s Special Service Award for outstanding service. The award was made at the American Heart Association’s meeting in Daytona Beach. Church was the president of the Collier County Leadership Circle, chair of Collier Heart Walk and is on the board of directors of Camp Boggy Creek.

Good deeds

The Fort Myers Relay for Life raised $480,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Walkie Talkies team raised the most money: $75,828.11.
