The Collier County Planning Commission voted today to recommend approval of a rezoning request from the Collier County Publishing Co. that's needed for it to build a new Naples Daily News building in North Naples.
The commission voted 4 to 2 in support of the request. Two commissioners abstained because they are Daily News employees and one commissioner was absent.

The Planning Commission acts in an advisory capacity only. The Collier County Commission will have the final say on the rezoning during its July 25 meeting.
The Daily News is asking for business-park zoning for 36 acres behind the Granada Shoppes in North Naples.
The property is an assemblage of five tracts, including 2.32 acres from Creekside Commerce Park just west of the Daily News site. The property also includes 23 acres now zoned for agricultural uses, home to We Pick Produce, a farm stand and U-pick that has been there for 35 years.
Naples-based Barron Collier Cos., the owner of the agricultural land, had teamed up with Collier County Publishing on the rezoning request.
Creekside is home to the corporate headquarters for Arthrex and Hellermann Tyton. Other tenants include a post office, a bank and medical offices. About two-thirds of the 104-acre park is developed.
