More than 100 lights on Naples’ trendy Third Street South shopping district that Hurricane Wilma damaged in October soon will be replaced.
City Council on Wednesday voted to pay Lumec Inc. of Cape Coral up to $392,610 for 117 single-fixture lights and 24 double lights to be installed in and around the Third Street Shopping District. The money will come from the city’s hurricane account, but because the light purchase is eligible for federal funding, the city expects to receive 87.5 percent reimbursement by FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency — leaving Naples with a $49,076.26 bill.
The Lumec lights will be compatible with other city Lumec lights and will have improved structural features, according to a memo by Dan Mercer, the city’s public works director. A memo by Finance Director Ann Marie Ricardi said city officials researched other similar products, but didn’t find identical lights, and found Lumec’s prices were comparable.
