Leaders discussing possible I-75 toll lanes

Southwest Florida leaders could learn this afternoon whether it’s feasible to add toll lanes to Interstate 75.

Leaders also could find out whether those toll lanes could be added to the Florida Department of Transportation’s plans to six-lane a 35-mile stretch of I-75.

The Southwest Florida Expressway Authority is meeting this afternoon at Bonita Springs City Hall to discuss the possible toll lanes. The authority was formed by the Florida Legislature to look into adding four toll lanes on the interstate in addition to the six normal lanes that are in the works.

The state already plans to spend $469 million to six-lane I-75 from Golden Gate Parkway in Naples to State Road 80 in Fort Myers, with a scheduled completion date of 2010.
