Letter of the Day: Making a difference

I would like to take time to thank two people who have made a tremendous impact on my family’s life in the past eight months — Barbara Mott, prekindergarten teacher, and Kathy Howard, her assistant, from Pelican Marsh Elementary School.

My son was enrolled there in the pre-K speech development program last October. He was 3 years old and had a speech and language delay that, at the time, allowed him a vocabulary of only about 20 words.

Mrs. Mott and Mrs. Howard have worked with him over the past eight months, and the progress is extraordinary.

He is now a vocal and curious 3½-year-old.

My family is so grateful to these amazing women for devoting their lives to the care, nurturing and education of these special-needs children.

We can’t wait for the 2006-2007 school year to start!
