Top-seeded Gordon Watson of Naples has advanced to the finals of the Boys 12s division at the Florida State Junior Closed Championship in Sanlando Park.
Watson will face No. 7 seed Roy Lederman in the title match today.
Naples’ Amy Simidian, the No. 5 seed in Girls 16s playing at Daytona Beach, lost in the semifinals of the Girls 16s to No. 2 seed Monica Chow, 6-4, 6-2.
Naples’ Chelsea Preeg, Erik Corace and Nicholas Maurillo all lost in the quarterfinals in their respective divisions.
Preeg, the No. 3 seed in the Girls 18s, won in a walkover to reach the quarterfinals. Naples’ Lauren Embree, the No. 2 seed, lost in the Round of 16. Preeg lost her quarterfinal match in three sets, dropping the final two.
Corace, the No. 4 seed in the Boys 18s, and Maurillo, the No. 9 seed, both won in straight sets to reach the quarterfinal, then were eliminated in straight sets. Naples’ Peter Rispoli, the No. 6 seed, lost in three sets in the Round of 16.
