Start stocking up for hurricane season soon. Residents might want to stock up a little bit at a time. Emergency officials recommend that residents who do not evacatuate when a hurricane hits should have a 72-hour supply of food and water. If you stay at home, take supplies with you into an interior room including the basics: food, water, flashlight, a radio or TV, a phone or cell phone, extra batteries, pet food and plastic bags. If evacuating, people should wait for their local Emergency Management agencies in conjunction with the American Red Cross to tell them which shelters will be open.
