County has opening ceremony for government center

Collier County officials had a grand opening ceremony this morning for the county’s new North Collier Government Services Center.

The 16,000-square-foot facility at 2335 Orange Blossom Drive –- next to the Collier County Headquarters Library -- actually opened its doors June 5. The center provides a variety of services for the offices of the Board of County Commissioners, tax collector, sheriff, property appraiser, clerk of courts and supervisor of elections.

Before the opening of the building, residents had to drive to the county government headquarters on U.S. 41 East and Airport-Pulling Road for many of those services.

The North Collier Government Services Center is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“In order to better serve our growing population, the Board felt it was necessary to proceed with the request to build an additional government office in the northern section of the county,” County Commission Chairman Frank Halas said in a prepared statement.

The building also features a meeting room that seats up to 40 people and is available to the public. A $20 refundable deposit is required to reserve the room.
