Top-seeded Gordon Watson of Naples won the Boys 12s singles title at the Florida State Junior Closed Championships on Thursday, beating seventh-seeded Roy Leverman, 6-2, 6-2, at Sanlando Park.
Watson was dominant throughout the statewide tournament. He never dropped a set, although he was pushed to a tiebreaker in the semifinals, a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over No. 5 Robert Livi.
In his other four matches, Watson beat: Julian Turosienski, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round; Jose Garcia, 7-5, 6-4, in the Round of 32; Justin Butsch, 7-5, 6-3, in the Round of 16; and No. 10 seed Joshua Goodman, 6-0, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
Southwest Florida’s other entries were eliminated from the championship round in their respective age groups earlier in the week.
