Dr. Perry Gotsis is resigning as chief medical officer of the NCH Healthcare System to return to private practice in internal medicine, he announced Thursday.
“I’m just going back to basics,” he said. “I just really missed patient care. That is my main reason.”
Gotsis said he gave notice to NCH officials about one and a half weeks ago and he will leave the hospital job in the beginning of September. He plans to go into solo practice in Naples.
Gotsis came to Naples in 1989, became involved in hospital administrative matters 10 years later and became chief medical officer on Jan. 1, 2001.
The position involves addressing administrative issues between the hospital and physicians, and other internal hospital matters. He earlier served on the physicians’ advisory board for Community Health Partners, the physician-hospital network for insurance contracts.
NCH officials have not announced a replacement.
