Democratic Women‘s Club
The Democratic Women’s Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Romano’s Macaroni Grill, 10940 U.S. 41, Naples. Gene Vaccaro, president of the Collier County Democrat Club will be the guest speaker.
Discount cat adoptions
The Humane Society of Lee County, 2010 Arcadia St., Fort Myers, has discounted the cost of cat adoptions in June to $45 (adults and kittens), $35 (seniors) and $85 (pure-bred). Information: (239) 332-0364
Trip for Marco teens
The Marco Island Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a trip to the Golden Gate Aquatics Center for Marco Island teens from 6:30-10 p.m. Saturday from Mackle Park, 1361 Andalusia Terrace, Marco Island. Free (residents), $20 (others accompanied by a resident). Information: 642-1666
Rainbow Day
Hospice of Naples will host Rainbow Day, a pet memorial ceremony, at 9:30 a.m. June 24 at 1094 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples. Attendees may bring a photo of their pet and pay tribute to its memory. Information: 261-4404
Achievements and accolades
-- Haley Barbera of Naples has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Florida Pageant for girls ages 4-7 to be held July 6-7 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando.
-- Carole Belanger and her dog, Sampson, completed a 10-week advanced obedience course — the Canine Good Citizen program — at the Humane Society of Collier County. Sampson will visit nursing homes and hospitals as a pet therapy dog.
-- Caitlin Citrano of Naples was awarded an American Legion Auxiliary scholarship. Citrano is a student at Barron Collier High School.
-- Lisa Ebel of Naples was named to the 2006 dean’s list at Lasell College in Newton, Mass.
-- Sean Houton has been named to the dean’s list at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Houton is serving a summer internship in the office of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and is a 2005 graduate of Naples High School.
-- Jessica Martin, daughter of Harold and Stormy Martin of Naples, is a state finalist in the National American Miss Florida Pageant for girls ages 10-12 to be held July 7-8 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando.
-- Andrew Robinson, son of Jan and Jerry Robinson of Naples, has been named an All-American Scholar Award winner. Robinson is a student at St. John Neumann High School.
-- Jillian St. Germain of Naples has been named to the dean’s list for the 2006 spring semester at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
-- Frank Sadera of Fort Myers won third place for his oil-on-canvas landscape, called “Summer Showers,” at the 2D/3D All-Florida Juried Exhibit at the Alliance for the Arts.
-- Christine Swanson, daughter of Mark and Mary Ann Swanson of Naples, has been named to the 2006 spring semester dean’s list at Duquesne University.
-- Amanda E. Tripp of Naples was named to the 2006 spring semester dean’s list at Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn.
-- Edward Van Bezey was honored on June 9 — his 89th birthday — by the Community Blood Center as a top donor. Van Bezey has donated 195 blood products at the center.
Graduations
-- Clinton Sebastian Gunderson of Naples graduated from the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., on May 27. Gunderson won three school awards, including the Archibald R. Montgomery Award for his concern for fellow students.
-- Jacqueline Houton graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University on May 21 with degrees in English and psychology. She was the 2002 salutatorian of Naples High School and will do graduate work at Emerson College.
-- Justin Lindabury of Naples graduated with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University. Lindabury is a 2001 graduate of Naples High School will work in Austin, Texas, for TBG Partners.
-- Nicole Malek, daughter of Victor and Evagelia Malek of Naples, graduated from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine on May 26. Malek is a graduate of Barron Collier High School and Emory University and will be a resident at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago.
-- Jasmine Belen Martel of Naples graduated from the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind on May 19.
