Water park open house canceled, grand opening delayed

The open house planned for Sunday at the Sun-N-Fun Lagoon water park has been canceled due to last-minute construction cleanup, the Parks and Recreation Department said.

At this time, the park is still on schedule to open to the public on June 21, Collier County Public Services Division spokeswoman Camden Smith said. Collier County residents who show identification will be able to enter Sun-N-Fun Lagoon free of charge Wednesday, June 21 from 4 to 7 p.m., she said.

The official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony has been rescheduled and will now take place Saturday, June 24.

“We’re still waiting for clearance from the health department and the fire department,” Smith said.

The water park is one part of the 212-acre North Collier Regional Park, which has been under construction since November 2004. North Collier Regional Park is located at 15000 Livingston Road, just south of Immokalee Road.

Attractions at Sun-N-Fun Lagoon include a 38-foot tall water tower with three water slides, one of which drops into a lazy river. There are four pools including a family pool, a toddler wading pool, a children's activity pool, and a lap and diving pool.
