Letter: Immigration still a hot issue

Editor, The Banner:

Diversity will be the death of our democracy.

This Hispanic horde violating our border is just the beginning. The 1987 immigration bill granted amnesty to 3 million illegals, and was an open invitation to the 12 million illegals today. We opened the door to the candy store and, in effect, said help yourself. The just-passed Senate bill is invitation No. 2, and a mere political pandering designed to benefit the political parties, both of which see future voters. A weak form of amnesty encourages more illegals, and future citizenship opens the door to bring in relatives legally for 12 million people.

The main export of Mexico seems to be poverty, followed by crime and disease. These are economic refugees who are Mexico's second largest source of revenue. Meanwhile, our hospitals are closing emergency rooms, our school's budgets are exploding, and our American culture is eroding.

Washington makes facile excuses about the taxes that these workers will pay, but stoop labor and low-wage construction jobs amount to little, compared to the billions that the illegals cost the taxpayers.

I am sure that most are hard-working, honest people, but the adverse affects upon our country will be the same as in many European countries which took in refugees from former colonies or war-ravaged neighbors that traded tolerant socialism for economic and social unrest. As I write, many are writing their immigration laws to staunch the flow.

I know that I will be called racist, nativist or whatever the epithet du jour is, but that is a ploy to attack me, rather than the issue. I just want my Constitution, culture and country back. We are being balkanized and will have many Miamis and sections of the country where English is a foreign language.

Mexico is a third country wherein crime and corruption are a way of life, and like Gresham's Law that bad money drives out good, so historically, bad culture drives out good.
