A 58-year-old Fort Myers man apparently drowned Saturday near Estero Bay.
The man, whose identity was not released Saturday by press time, was found under the docks at 5571 Avenida Pescadora, on the canal side of Fort Myers Beach.
Three boaters found his body and contacted the Coast Guard and Lee County Sheriff’s Office, said LCSO spokesman Angelo Vaughn.
The man was found in street clothes and tennis shoes, Vaughn said. He did not appear to have been in the water very long, Vaughn said.
“As of right now, it’s just a drowning,” Vaughn said, adding that police are investigating any possibilities of foul play.
The Fort Myers man was identified through a driver’s license he had with him, but police were withholding a name Saturday until the man’s family could be notified.
The body was taken by the District 21 Medical Examiner to perform an autopsy and confirm the cause of death.
