The Collier County Sheriff's Office's Traffic Safety Office will launch a new program Tuesday designed to help senior motorists check how well their personal vehicle "fits" them.
The program is part of the national CarFit program, created by the American Society on Aging. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Heron House, 5175 U.S. 41 E., Naples. Trained professionals will be on hand to lead senior drivers through a 12-point checklist with their vehicle, and recommend car adjustments and adaptations.
Improving the fit of their car can help make them safer on the road, the Sheriff's Office said.
According to the Sheriff's Office, people over age 65 are the fastest-growing segment of the American population. By 2030 it is estimated there will be more than 30 million drivers in the United States over 65.
