Water park gets inspection after open house delay

The Sun-N-Fun Lagoon at North Collier Regional Park is getting a final inspection today before plans to open the park to the public on Wednesday.

A Collier County Health Department inspector has been at the park today to make sure the park is up to code. The inspector is looking for issues related to safety and water quality.

Some items being addressed include tightening handrails, checking water level markings, fixing signage and tightening loose drains.

As of late this morning, about 80 percent of the issues hadn’t been resolved, county officials said. Inspectors can remain on scene until Wednesday – the scheduled day for opening the park -- and any problems can be resolved, allowing the park still to open at 4 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

The county on Friday canceled an open house that had been planned for Sunday because of continuing construction cleanup. Sunday's open house was intended only for tours and the pools weren't going to be open for swimming.

The health department has yet to issue the county an operating permit for the seven pools at the water park because of safety issues that need to be addressed.

The park is along Livingston Road south of Immokalee Road.
