Lehigh children accused of brush fire sentenced

Three Lehigh Acres children accused of touching off a 2,000-acre brush fire that destroyed more than a dozen homes and 30 vehicles were sentenced this morning to a pretrial diversion program.

Russell Walker, 12, Jorge Puig, 10, and Paris Solis, 14, will meet with a Lehigh Acres Neighborhood Accountability Board and with victims of the fire. Board members will determine community service projects for each child.

Each was charged with malicious burning of land when they were arrested in connection with the April brush fires.

If they complete the diversion program within 90 days, adjudication will be withheld.

Nationally, and in Florida, juveniles are responsible for about 50 percent of all reported arson fires, according to the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office.
