A 16-year-old arrested Monday on a handful of charges added two more after busting out the rear window of a Lee County Sheriff’s cruiser and escaping, sheriff’s reports said.
Justin Raymond King, of 27051 Holly Road, Bonita Springs, was arrested early Monday morning on charges of arson, grand theft and unarmed burglary. He is accused of setting fire to a Chevrolet Blazer that had been reported stolen, and burglarizing a shed in the 26000 block of Colony Road.
King was arrested and placed in the back of a patrol car but slipped his handcuffs from behind his back to in front of his chest and broke the window to escape, Sheriff’s reports said.
It took officers about half an hour to find and recapture King, said Sheriff’s spokeswoman Ileana LiMarzi. King was also charged with property damage and escape.
“It’s better just to stay in the car,” said LiMarzi, who added the escape charge is a felony.
Jeremy James McCormick, 14, of 10811 Dean St., was also arrested on Monday on similar charges, including burglary and grand larceny. McCormick is accused of stealing the vehicle that was later burned and helping King burglarize the shed on Colony Road.
Both were released from juvenile detention on Tuesday.
