Art League of Bonita Springs: Try an art class this summer

Area artists who are interested in exhibiting their work have a wonderful opportunity this week at the Center for the Arts. Drop-off time for Regional Artists I competition is 10 a.m. to noon Friday, June 23. Entries will be juried and the exhibit will be open for viewing on June 28. Regional Artists I will be on display through July 27. An awards reception will be held July 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The week of July 4 will be a short week for Summer Art Camps at the Center for the Arts. Two-day camps on the schedule are: Young at Art (ages 4-5), Mo Art (kindergarten through second grade), Mo Art (third through sixth grade, Chinese Brush Painting (ages 12 to 15-plus), and Bumpy Bead Bracelet (ages 12 to 15-plus). Sign your child up for a great creative experience.

The city of Bonita Springs will hold its annual Fourth of July parade on Saturday, July 1, followed by activities in beautiful Riverside Park. The Art League of Bonita Springs will have a booth with face painting and art projects for children. Volunteers are needed to help with both face painting and simple art projects. Young aspiring architects can build to their hearts content in "If You Build It – They Will Come," a camp for K-2nd grade scheduled for July 10-14. "Amphibians, Reptiles and Bugs" is for those youngsters fascinated by lizards, snakes and the world of bugs – for kindergarten through second grade, July 10-14. Level 2 campers (third through sixth grade) can choose from "Go Tribal" to learn about native cultures and "Space, Place and Time" where they will build a masterpiece from objects found in nature. Ages 12 to 15-plus can learn the art of the potter's wheel in "Throw in Mud," July 10-14. For a full listing of camps call the Art League at 395-8989 or visit online at www.artcenterbonita.org. The summer months are the perfect time to try an adult art class at the Center for the Arts. A wide variety of classes are available through the summer months. Classes are small and friendly. Whether your medium is watercolors, pastels, oils, or acrylics there is a class for you. Throwing clay pottery or building by hand — both options are available throughout the year. Painting landscapes or portraits, abstracts or realistic images; the Art League has a class for you. There's no time like the present to try something new. Be creative — express yourself through art.

The Art League of Bonita Springs' beautiful Center for the Arts is located at 26100 Old 41 Road, Bonita Springs, on the northwest corner at the Imperial Harbor stoplight. Stop in for a tour or to visit our galleries and gift shop. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.
