Water park gets OK to open today

The Sun-N-Fun Lagoon water park officially has the green light to open its doors.

The park received a temporary certificate of occupancy this afternoon. Under the conditions of the permit, no swimming is allowed after dark.

The park plans to be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. It plans to be open during the regular hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for regular admission prices Thursday and Friday.

The park will be reinspected by July 14.

Collier County Public Services Division spokeswoman Camden Smith said the county was assured even before getting the official certificate of occupancy that it would be allowed to open its doors.

“We’re doing some last minute testing and stuff and (inspectors) are out here, but we’re going to be open,” she said earlier this afternoon. “We are absolutely positive. That’s what we’ve been told by the health department.”

Issues with loose railings, drainage, and irrigation and sprinklers led to a race to correct the problems in time for today’s unofficial grand opening.

The park’s formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 9:30 a.m. Saturday,

Collier County residents with identification can enter the park for free today. Regular admission is $5.50 for kids shorter than 4 feet in height and $10 for taller individuals. Kids 3 years old and younger get in free.
