The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said Anthony Mallon, 34, of 1290 Highlands Drive, began engaging in an online chat with a Sheriff’s Office investigator in March. The investigator was posing as a 14-year-old girl.
In the next few chats, Mallon and the investigator discussed topics of a sexual nature, authorities said. Mallon also sent several photographs showing nude body parts, the Sheriff’s Office said.
On Monday, Mallon suggested they meet at the food court at Coastland Center mall the following day. Mallon said he would bring a rose for the girl.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office met with Mallon as he approached the food court on Tuesday and placed him under arrest. Authorities said he was carrying a rose.
Mallon was charged with use of a computer to seduce or solicit a child to complete an illegal act (a third-degree felony with punishment not exceeding five years in prison), and three counts of electronic transmission of information that is harmful to a minor (a third-degree felony with punishment not exceeding 5 years in prison).
