I'd like to wish a belated Happy Father's Day to all of our fathers, brothers, sons, uncles and friends. Even if you never enjoyed the pleasures of fatherhood, I am sure that along the way you were an inspiration to someone who will never forget you and loves you for the wonderful person you are.
I know I told you that traffic was better, but I forgot about U.S. 41. Patience is wearing thin for everyone who drives between Bonita Beach Road and Old 41. The bridges seem like they are never going to be finished. I was coming back from running errands last Wednesday when I saw traffic backed up going north over the bridge.
It was down to one lane because a car was stopped and no one could get around. Some were patiently waiting to enter the other lane with their flashers turned on. Just as I approached, a lady in a red Mustang decided to push her way into the moving lane and sideswiped the person in front of her. She kept going.
Friday I went to the Hair Cottage on U.S. 41 near Bonita Beach Road and found out that my hairdresser, Nancy Turkal, was the lady whose car was sideswiped. She had to follow the red car to exchange information. The other driver said it was "no big deal" and to let it go. Then she looked at her own car. Her impatience is going to be a "big deal" when she goes to the repair shop.
I hope Nancy doesn't suffer any delayed consequences from this. You never know what your impatience might cause besides a headache. It's just not worth it.
Hopefully, when you are reading this we will be on the road. There might be a couple of side trips in our plans before we get back to Ohio, but I don't know yet. I'll let you know if the roads we travel are as torn up as those in Bonita.
I am not sure if there will be a newsletter on June 28 because it will depend on my ability to hook up to the Internet while traveling. In the meantime, let me wish some friends and neighbors best wishes on their birthdays and anniversaries.
Louella and Mo finally got to spend an anniversary together on June 18. Birthdays being celebrated are Rose Pappas on June 26, Faye Neely on June 27, and Dot Sanderson on June 30. My sister, Mary Ray, is getting closer to the age when she can join us at SCV. She will be 50 on July 1.
Speaking of Faye Neely, she is finally in her new home. She was assisted by several of her neighbors in getting everything from the POD and Thompson's house into the new house. Jim and Vera Stivers, Eileen Eagan, Bud Wilson, Cliff Haimbaugh and Joyce and Ed Florian proved that good neighbors are one of the best benefits of SCV.
I understand Dot Sanderson is at home and doing well. I'm sure having her daughter, Gail Howard, nearby will be a great help. I know that her son, John Landry, has been helping her and also taking care of getting Imy Benko to bingo. Once again, family and friends prove their worth.
Tuesday evening we almost had more treats than people at bingo. We started the evening with birthday wishes to Ron Hatch. Ron's given us a couple of scares lately and it's good to have him in our midst. The first special was won by Kay Hadam for completing the letter X. The Four Corners Postage Stamp was split between Bonnie Gunsallus and Jean Shelley. Marilyn Roberts returned to bingo after a brief absence and won the Coverall game. John Landry took home the Big Basket.
Wednesday night, a small group played euchre and Herb Higgins was declared the winner. Jane Griffiths took both the booby prize and the door prize. Thursday evening, the bridge players met and this week didn't leave me a winners list but I found last week's list and Ed "Zack" Zajchowski and Don Owsley took the prizes.
I know there were 10 bowlers the past two weeks but didn't receive results from Jim Stivers. Jim and Vera have been on the road a lot lately while traveling between SCV and their new home in North Port. Visitors say it is beautiful!
Pinochle players and euchre winners were switched last week. Let's see if I can get it right this time. Rita Gallagher, Joe Bohrer and Bill Elliott were winners and Ron Hatch took the door prize.
There is a meeting of the SCVACI on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. It is always interesting and should be very informative regarding hurricane preparations. Please try to attend if you are still in the park.
The golf cart bandits hit SCV again. Sunday morning, Jerry and Jeannette Wobrach, newcomers to the park, discovered their cart gone. There has been no word on the recovery of the golf carts stolen from Don and Caroline Owsley and Sonny and me. It's a good thing we like to ride our bikes.
We are still looking for people to go with us to see "The Lion King" on Wednesday, February 21, 2007. We have reservations for 30 but we can add as many as needed within reason. There is an adjustment to the cost. It is $58 per person for their ticket and transportation. If you are interested, please let Bonnie Gunsallus or me know. Checks can be sent to either of us. $35 is due by June 30 and the balance of $23 is due by July 31.
It looks like weather around the country is catching up to our Florida weather. I see that the high 80s and 90s weather is being enjoyed by many of you at your summer homes. Remember, the same rules apply and keep those hats on and cover yourself with good sunscreen. Enjoy the sun with your family and friends. Take some pictures to share when you come back to SCV and keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We look forward to seeing you again.
