These are days of big growth at Florida Gulf Coast University — for the student body as well as development on the main campus and satellite sites as well.
Those are products of big dreaming. To sustain them and take FGCU to the next level, it will take big money.
The FGCU Foundation met the other day and reviewed what kind of fundraising needs to be done.
There is nearly $13 million needed in matching funds for an arts center on campus; there is $11 million more needed for a branch campus, including a small performing arts center in downtown Naples; there is an as yet uncertain amount required to fortify a fledgling music program; and $2.5 million to start getting serious about big-time, competitive sports.
It is good to see the foundation being bold and thinking big — as they usually do.
Otherwise, members would be occupied with making choices about which projects merit funding.
They know which ones FGCU needs. All of them.
