The Florida Highway Patrol said Lucus Fredrick Dunkle, 26, was southbound on the Chokoloskee Causeway south of Oyster Bar Lane shortly after 10 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason.
The 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck swerved to the right and began to rotate clockwise, authorities said. The truck then overturned on the shoulder of the road at least one time, ejecting Dunkle.
The vehicle came to a final rest upright facing northwest. Dunkle suffered obvious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the highway patrol said.
He hadn’t been wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
