An 18-year-old Golden Gate High School graduate died late Wednesday in a one-vehicle crash in East Naples.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 11 p.m. to the crash at the intersection of Shaw Boulevard and Plover Avenue in the White Lake Commerce Park. The location is just east of the Collier Boulevard and Interstate 75 interchange.
The driver, Jose Ramos, of 2800 Tropicana Blvd., No. 3, Golden Gate, died as a result of the crash.
Authorities said Ramos was driving west on Plover Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 2005 Dodge Neon SRT. The car slid off the road and struck a pine tree.
He died as a result of the impact, authorities said.
Investigators haven’t determined how fast Ramos was traveling.
Initial investigation revealed that alcohol was not a factor and Ramos was not wearing his seat belt.
Family members were too distraught to talk Thursday.
The Sheriff’s Office said the area has been a popular location for street racing, and deputies have been targeting the area with increased enforcement.
