Gulf Coast's Courtney Platt was named to the first team of the Florida Sports Writers Association class 5A all-state softball team.

Shark's coach Phil DePuy couldn't be more pleased with Platt's accomplishments and is looking forward to the senior's return for the upcoming season.

"She is a fabulous team leader, and her work ethic is one of the best I've seen in 22 years of coaching," DePuy said.

"She is one of those athletes who always wants to do more." Platt was third in all of Southwest Florida with a .567 batting average, a mere two points behind area leader Sarah Bronson of Southwest Florida Christian who had .569.

The outfielder, who was also named the co-MVP for District 15 this past season, is undecided on where she will continue her education.

DePuy plans to help her consider her options this coming fall.

"This is a great tribute to what kind of athlete she is," he said.

Fellow Sharks receiving honors on the adjacent diamond were Gulf Coast baseball players Kyle Lozensky, Brandon Neff and Justin Strang. The three were given honorable mentions for class 5A.
