School may have let out for the summer, but the school work continued, June 10, with the installation of the Pathways to Excellence at Corkscrew Elementary School.
For over two months, the Family Involvement Committee has overseen sales of engraved bricks to raise funds for the committee and provide a lasting memory for the purchaser.
Parents and teachers bought over 100 bricks, some saying "CES Rocks" or "Reading = Happiness." Some of the bricks commemorate teachers' class names like Paulich's Cool Cats, Winslow's Wizards and Withstandley Wolves. Others feature students' names and the years they attended the school. The committee will continue sales of the special bricks next year in an effort to complete two more paths at the school.
Accurate Pavers donated their labor to lay the first pathway in a grassy area between three rows of buildings. The new path will allow students to pass from room to room without damaging the grass or encountering any unfriendly bugs. Organizers say the path will also allow wheelchairs to be easily pushed from building to building.
"We are especially thankful to Barb Southwick for pulling this project together and Assistant Principal Hugh Casey for being so diligent to get it done," says committee member Alison DePrisco. "CES has great spirit!"
