Florida friendly yards

Learn how to create a Florida-friendly yard at the following workshops:

-- 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 24, Collier County University of Florida/IFAS Extension, 14700 Immokalee Road, Naples.

-- 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, Golden Gate Community Center, 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples.

Amateur radio field day

The Amateur Radio Association of SW Florida is sponsoring a field day from 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, through 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at 294 Brandy Lane, Naples. The event tests the amateur radio operators’ ability to set up and operate portable facilities and radio equipment that may be used during emergencies and disasters. Information: 455-4823

Microchips discounted

Microchips for cats and dogs will be discounted throughout July at the Humane Society of Lee County, 2010 Arcadia St., Fort Myers. The microchips contain information about the pet’s owner and registration, aiding the return of displaced pets during the hurricane season. Chips are available from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon-4 p.m. Sundays. Appointments are not necessary. $10. Information: (239) 332-0364

Aviation graduations

Achievements and accolades

-- Lee Campbell, son of Jack and Mary Campbell of Naples, has been awarded the Gopher National Scholarship from the University of Minnesota. Campbell, a graduate of Gulf Coast High School, will receive $5,000 per year for four years.

-- Julie Carr, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Carr Jr. of Naples, was named to the 2006 spring dean’s list at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Va.

-- Javier Garcia of Naples is participating in the Presidential Classrooms’ Science, Technology and Public Policy Program in Washington, D.C., until Saturday.

-- Andrew J. Krause was named a Florida Super Lawyer by “Law & Politics” magazine. Krause, an attorney with Hahn, Loeser & Parks, focuses on estate planning, estate settlement and estate and trust administration.

-- Klaus Alexander Lederer of Naples has been named to the president’s list for the 2006 spring semester at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass.

-- Jennifer Long of Naples was named to the dean’s list at the University of Central Florida, Orlando.

-- William H. Myers, William K. Stevens and Robert J. Stommel of the Naples office of Fowler, White, Boggs, Banker and Denise L. Wheeler and Matthew B. Wheeley of the Fort Myers office have been named Florida Super Lawyers by “Law & Politics” magazine.

-- Emiliano Pantner, son of Emilio Pantner and Luisa Diamante, both of Marco Island, is a recipient of a St. Michael’s College Scholarship and Service Book Award. The award is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism and leadership through community service. Pantner is a student at St. John Neumann High School.

-- Ashley Rich, daughter of David and Virginia Rich of Naples, is a finalist in the pre-teen scholarship and recognition program to be held July 21-23 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Tampa Bay.

-- Anke Stimpson has been appointed executive director of Project HELP. Stimpson was the assistant director of psychiatric service at Deering Hospital in Miami, director of the behavioral health unit at NCH Healthcare System in Naples and served as director of marketing and center operations for Dermascreen Centers of Naples.

-- Doug Ross Walsh, a student at Gulf Coast High School, will attend the Presidential Classroom’s National Security in a Democracy Program, July 15-22 in Washington, D.C.

Graduations

-- Tyler Brill Caron of Naples graduated from Urinus College in Collegeville, Pa., with a bachelor’s degree in politics on May 13.

-- Stacey L. Madsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Madsen of Naples, graduated from Furman University in Greenville, S.C., on June 3.

-- Tammy Rasmussen, daughter of Steve and Jacque Rasmussen of Naples, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, on June 10. Rasmussen, a 2002 graduate of Lely High School, received a bachelor’s degree in French horn performance.
