Sheila's Out Shopping: Making scents of summer

I sprayed, spritzed and splashed my way around town, trying to find the right summer fragrance. I sniffed vanilla, passion flower, citrus and pomegranate, looking to make the right impression. Then it was on to kiwi, honeysuckle and vetiver (a woodsy fragrance).

Ralph Lauren‘s Hot toilette spray($42.50) at Macy’s is created with kiwi, cucumber peel, honeysuckle, lily-of-the-valley and vetiver, and it comes packaged in a purple bottle. If you don’t like Hot you can go with Cool ($42.50), a floral scent that comes in a bright pink bottle. Both fragrances are also available as shower gels and body moisturizers.

Bath & Body Works takes you to the Tropics with body splashes of Pomegranate Martini and Tropical Colada ($8 each). Frozen Daiquiri is a third interesting fragrance. All three are available as body washes.

Clinique‘s Happy in Bloom ($37.50) — which comes in a 1.7-fluid ounce perfume spray, might be the all-time perfect daytime scent. It is crisp and the name puts a smile on my face. Available at Dillard’s.

One Summer by ck ($40) is a unisex fragrance. You’ll have to hide this from the man in your life, because he probably will enjoy the light citrus aroma. It is a wonderful summer fragrance. Available at Macy’s.

Cool idea

Sharper Image (at the Waterside Shops, 5455 U.S. 41 N., Naples, 597-9448) sells a pool float with a mister in an attached palm tree. You can cool off as you relax, without getting out of the pool. ($39.99).
