The annual national HIV testing day is Tuesday, but Collier County will observe it all week to make it easier for local residents to follow through on recommended testing for the disease.
From today through Friday, a variety of testing sites will be available through the auspices of the Collier County Health Department and other social service agencies.
The health department will offer the rapid-test results for free.
Statistics show Collier has 1,200 reported cases of HIV/AIDS since tracking began in 1981. Each year, there is an average of 70 newly diagnosed cases in the community.
Here is a calendar of events:
• Today, free HIV testing by health department staff from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m, Metropolitan Community Church (inside the Unitarian Church located at 6340 10th St. S.W.)
• Monday, free testing at the health department from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Building H, Collier government complex, 3301 U.S. 41 E.
• Tuesday, free testing at Planned Parenthood of Collier County from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 1425 Creech Road; at the health department in East Naples from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and at the health department in Immokalee at 419 First St. N. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Thursday, free testing at River Park Community Center at 301 11th St. N. from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Monday through Friday, free testing at Marion E. Fether Clinic, 1454 Madison Ave., Immokalee, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
