It's nice when a light bulb clicks on to help charitable groups and the light shines just a bit brighter when the idea springs out of a grass-roots effort.
Forest Getter, teen volunteer coordinator for the Fort Myers-based Friendship Volunteer Center, and his 16-year-old daughter, Megan, are using the Internet to help guide students, scouting groups and other youthful helpers on charitable projects from the Bonita Springs Literacy Council to the AIDS Resource Council of Southwest Florida.
In addition to how to contact them, the Web site includes information on the groups' mission, what type of teen volunteers they're seeking and what services they need.
Bringing the volunteer information under one cyber-roof allows people to avoid a bureaucratic maze in figuring out how to accomplish charitable efforts.
This wonderful idea can be found at www.volunteerlee.org on the Web.
Keep up the good work. It is illuminating.
