4,646 people spend weekend at water park

County officials today said 4,646 people spent part of the their weekend at the Sun-N-Fun Lagoon water park in North Naples.

According to numbers released this afternoon, more than 1,000 people had entered the gates for free by 9:40 a.m. Saturday for the official grand opening. The park was first open to the public briefly Wednesday before rain forced its closure after about 20 minutes.

The park was open for normal business hours on Thursday and Friday, but celebrated its grand opening on Saturday.

Parks and Recreation Director Barry Williams said the opening weekend numbers exceeded the county’s expectations.

Saturday numbers: 1,037 free for ribbon cutting, 1699 more than 48 inches tall, 169 less than 48 inches tall, 118 age 3 or younger (free).

Sunday numbers: 1,370 more than 48 inches tall, 179 less than 48 inches tall and 174 age 3 or younger (free).

The water park is located on Livingston Road south of Immokalee Road.
